Kenyan politics and alliances have always been about hate and fear mongering. Hate has been a convenient tool from as early as the sixties and it is a paradox that it is not about to die.

Jubilee grabbed power by stoking communal emotions around perceived fears, painting Raila as a common enemy worthy of total annihilation.

They called him names while invoking God in their quest for power. Raila despite being a practicing Christian, was bandied a devil and prayers were called to ostensibly defeat the “devil” as they called him.

Politics of emotions is attractive especially when a politician is cornered. The question is: How long can the same trick be employed? Is it sustainable? Won’t people run out of negative adjectives?

A lot of water has gone under the bridge and today we’re in the era of the much talked about handshake. The handshake was about building bridges so that all communities walk one road of building the nation.

Jubilee was a coalition between kalenjins and kikuyus and the recent graft allegations coming to light only prove that it was, to some quarters, an exclusive club to squander and cart away the nation’s resources while keeping other communities at arms length.

That’s perhaps the reason some politicians are bitter. The rapprochement disrupts the gravy train. “Outsiders ” can now poke their noses into the inner sanctums of power and it is from the same that true wickedness of leaders “chosen by God ” come to light.

To cart away billions is to cannibalize the economy. A destroyed economy leaves millions destitute. It is a shame that victims of plunder are abused by the same perpetrators.

That aside, the handshake was a total surprise to both friend and foe. The 2017 elections frayed emotions so much that the notion of forgiveness was out of question. Supporters in both camps sought death as opposed to peace.

Raila has taken so much bile when it comes to the handshake. Some of his die hard supporters have not forgiven him.

It is without doubt that the biggest beneficiary of the handshake is the Jubilee Party. The handshake has afforded them peace and tranquillity, a very important item needed to achieve economic growth.

Raila’s side is yet to see the fruits of the handshake. Grumbling is muted but loud enough to be heard. It is therefore very surprising that the URP camp in the Jubilee Coalition is complaining even louder than the opposition.

Many argue that the handshake has cut Ruto down to size, maybe for national good. It has afforded kikuyu voters a breathing corner. The 2022 debt collector was already breathing down their necks, spewing venom and threatening consequences should Uhuru fail to live up to the promise of supporting him.

The handshake takes the payback off the table. Uhuru is entering a period of lame-duck incumbency and opportunistic politicians were already trooping to Ruto’s corner, giving him even more power.

It is natural for Ruto to fight back in his efforts to claw back his diminishing stature. But his methods leave a lot to be desired.

Ruto has chosen the route of pure hate against not only luos but also Raila the man. He has been recorded calling the community a poor lot and as late as last weekend used the circumcision term to express his animus against this community.

Ruto should appreciate that karma does not joke. He coined the phrase,”Raila will never be president” and the same is coming back to haunt him. “Ruto will never be President ” is taking the internet by storm with a common rider, “what’s wrong with this man!”

There is scandal after scandal in the government and the people are getting tired. Ruto and scandal are increasingly becoming synonyms. Often times, laughter follows the revelations storming the news media.

He appears to want to leverage his chances of clinching the presidency by replaying the 2013 hate campaigns. He is bent on using the same reviled tricks.

Ruto has decided to rope in Raila in all his problems. Raila this Raila that populates his speeches. He wants to literally die with Odinga. He has chosen to re-use the same old name as a trump card and it is not a wonder that people are no longer buying the lines

Hatred is an unfortunate emotion and it is without doubt that Ruto is on a path to self destruction. Raila is not in charge of investigations and choosing to abuse and belittle him makes little sense.

Perhaps the Ruto team have decided to stoke tribal animosity within the country as a way of bullying decision makers in government ministries.

The DPP has an obligation to prove his case before the courts and the innocent need not worry. Raila does not go to the courts. He has no capacity to investigate but has a right to comment on publicly available information.

Ruto has made his attacks on Raila personal. There is malevolence in his eyes and bitterness in his voice. He should be told that hate is a dangerous burden! The internet has also of late indulged in discussing the status of Ruto’s health. The hate burden is eating him, gnawing away at his soul.

On the positive side, Raila has decided to live his life to the hilt, smiling away at all that come his way, much to the chagrin of hateful politicians roaming the expansive rift valley.

Ruto has also decided to call Raila all manner of names, but looked at deeply, these names are but a reflection of his own personality. Nobody doubts that Ruto is an accomplished liar. There is absolutely no dispute in that.

All manner of dam projects started in 2013 but there is none on the ground. He is still talking of new ones. He is the real conman, yet does not hesitate to call Raila the same.

The stadia pledge is haunting him and memes are coming out everyday, funny career hurting memes. That’s the real Ruto, a hateful stone cold liar.

That Ruto can brazenly deny the deaths visiting Turkana is beyond human comprehension. He has even ordered for the arrests of the government officials on the ground for reporting the deaths because he hates the truth.

It is time the country woke to the realization that Ruto is a hateful and dangerous politician. He is a cold liar and should be called out on the same.

A nation cannot be founded on shamelessnes. Truth and love must suffice. Honesty is a virtue which must be demanded of all those who seek to lead this country. The more Ruto walks the hate path, the clearer it becomes that he is not worthy of even contending to lead this weakened country.
