Kenyans are staring at another failure in the latest fight against corruption. The scale and brazennes in the manner in which the dams scandal was excecuted should serve as a wake up call to all and sundry.
The entire concept was about carting away public resources, from the budgeting stage to the implementation at the valleys in Kerio. It is not a surprise that the finance Secretary has become a person of interest in the entire saga.
The Building Bridges Initiative afforded Uhuru another chance to put the nation back on the right track. Support from Raila afforded him another layer of protection should, as expected, The looters of the economy fight back.
Uhuru has disappointed millions in the way he is executing the fight. The dam scandal is a black and white case! Quick and direct conviction can be achieved. Money has been paid and two years down the line, nothing is on the ground to show for the same.
What we have is, not surprisingly, a vigorous fight back from the accused persons and their proxies. Ruto is wild and Sudi is shooting from the hips.
Ruto has made it a personal mission to sabotage any efforts aimed at looking into the latest scandals. He is bullying his way around, insulting and threatening to collapse the government.
I believe that’s the layer Uhuru sought when he went for the handshake. Uhuru seems to have chickened out! The fight is losing momentum and personal social media handles are being deleted.
Just when everybody believed Uhuru was going to deal a decisive blow against the graft scourge, he went for the puny chosing to instead sack one Echesa, a hapless unschooled minister.
The fight is all but lost and things are getting back to normal. Ruto calls himself the DP to directly spite Uhuru. He wants Uhuru to understand he is not an appointee and cannot be pushed around. He has also made it his past time to endlessly call Uhuru’s BBI partner endless derogatory names. That too is a direct insult to Uhuru and his agenda.
Meanwhile, The other four agenda items are being swallowed by the noise. The talk of 2022 is picking pace and Ruto lieutenants are sharpening their attacks.
Raila risks being bundled together with Uhuru in the entire Jubilee government failures.
A defeat on Uhuru is a defeat on Raila. The two are now conjoined twins and the government failures are also getting increasingly heaped at Raila’s feet.
Raila needs to give Uhuru a polite ultimatum: bite or I leave!
The fight cannot be oral. It has to have teeth. People must not only be fired but also hauled to the courts. Corrupt politicians must lose tangible assets. It must cost an arm to indulge in corruption and this is the time to do it.
By giving Uhuru unqualified support in the last year or so, Raila has increasingly become part of the problem. He will soon not be able to extricate himself and once the economy collapses, as is possible with the scale of scandals coming to light, He will bear even a bigger burden.
Since it is clear Uhuru lacks the will to fight, Raila has no option but to walk away from the handshake and let Jubilee be what they intrisincly are, A shameless corruption enterprise!
