AT 73, RAILA IS IN THE BEST OF HIS ELEMENTS! AND THIS IS FRUSTRATING THE RUTO CAMP
Raila Amolo Odinga was born in 1945, roughly some 73 years ago! That sounds a lot going by the numbers. He has lived much of his life fighting for the democratic space, fighting one despot after the other, seeking liberation for those under the yoke of dictatorship.
His footprint straddles the Kenyan political landscape much to the chagrin of his enemies. When it comes to power politics, Africa is such a dangerous place! Death always looms.
Raila has been shuffled from prison to prison, faced contingent after contingent of anti-riot police officers, weathered secret service spying, teargassing, economic sabotage and many other ills imaginable, that the dictators in this continent could design for him.
He saw Kenyatta’s presidency. Lived through and fought Moi, worked with the conniving Kibaki and is now living under the reign of Kenyatta junior.
Many wished he could retire with Kibaki. The Uhuru government even used retirement benefits as bait to lure him into retirement but all the tricks did not work. Raila is still going strong.
Uhuru is serving his last term in office and by all wisdom, saw it fit to stop antagonizing Raila and moved for a peace deal. The rapprochement between Uhuru and Raila has afforded both men a peaceful environment to work on their legacy items.
Uhuru has agreed to facilitate Raila’s move towards international diplomacy and leadership. This move affords Uhuru an opportunity to zero in on his four agenda items.
It is obvious the peace deal now affords Kenyans an opportunity to shine the spotlight on other ills bedeviling Kenya. Scandals are now coming out of the woodworks and people are being arrested.
It is also an opportunity for Raila to stomp the diplomatic world, building afresh his international links and many now believe Raila is using the same to position himself as Uhuru’s successor.
Uhuru’s move to shake Raila’s hand has not only irked Ruto’s lieutenants, it has also rattled them. They see Raila as a man out to spoil the party for for their boss.
The entire Rift Valley leadership have not welcomed the Uhuru Raila deal. They’ve done their best in their efforts to belittle Raila, calling him an old man, ” who is nothing in jubilee ” They’ve also thrown jabs at Uhuru himself, calling him a “mkora” because they already believe he is reneging on his 2022 promise. They thrive on politics of confrontation and an environment of peace seems to befuddle them.
The person leading the onslaught today is one Onesmus Kipchumba Murkomen, a senator 40 years younger than Raila. Kipchumba is 39 years old and his attempts at disparaging and undercutting Raila betrays their impatience at having Raila retire from politics.
Come to think of it! Why would a young man, born in 1979 keep on harassing a man the age of his father? Doesn’t it betray the famed Kalenjin impatience?
Kipchumba Murkomen is a typical lenjin. He is rude, arrogant, insensitive, unrefined, impatient, does not understand self leadership and is focused on too much politics at the expense of leadership.
His constituency is one of the poorest in the country and the wealth gap is ever widening. He can do better to his constituents than to keep on disparaging Raila, a man who has not even declared his intention to run in the 2022 race.
Kenya is currently trapped within many dilemmas and a refined leadership would suffice if the country is to break out.
Raila Odinga takes care of his physical health. He exercises and eats right. He is also relaxed and settled psychologically and this demeanor is not changing anytime soon. Mr Murkomen and his gang had better stop gorging themselves on the hate poison because as long as Raila is not sharing their cup nothing bad is going to happen any soon.
Raila will live well beyond 100 years, for what better victory can you have over your opponents than outlive them?
