Gor Mahia FC defeat Yanga SC 3-2 in CAF Cup
KPL champions Gor Mahia moved an inch closer to the knockout phases of the CAF Confederations Cup with a 3-2 win over Tanzanian outfit Young Africans (Yanga) at the Benjamin Mkapa National Stadium in Dar-es-Salaam.
The win took Gor Mahia’s points tally to eight, one more than second-placed USM Alger who could yet seize back their Group lead when they host Rayon Sports later today at the Stade Omar Hamadi stadium in the Algerian capital.
Gor Mahia made the best possible start to match when George Odhiambo ‘Blackberry’ capped a rapid move with super-fast opening goal to leave Yanga’s fading CAF hopes in tatters inside just 30 seconds. The hosts lost possession in their third and the ball was passed to Samuel Onyango, who was making a run on the right, and the former Ulinzi Stars man brought in a sumptuous cross that George ‘Blackberry’ Odhiambo headed home.
Jacques Tuyisenge then doubled Gor’s advantage at the stroke of half time to give the visitors took a healthy lead going to the break.
