Igembe South MP Paul Mwirigi Hit with One Million Fine for Helping Prisoner Escape

Igembe South MP John Paul Mwirigi has been released on Ksh.1million bond with surety of similar amount or Ksh.500,000 cash bail.

The 24-year-old lawmaker had been presented in court to answer charges of obstructing police work and helping a suspect escape.

The court was told that on November 26, the MP committed the two felonies along the Meru-Mikinduri Road.

The MP denied the two charges before chief magistrate Stellah Abuya on Tuesday morning.

The case will be mentioned on December 6 this year pending hearing on Febreuary 25, 2019.

The Prosecution wanted the Igembe South MP denied bond saying he was a flight risk and could interfere with witnesses who are police officers.

However, his lawyers said he would be kept away from the witnesses.

The court granted the request that he stay away from the Meru area for 14 days.
