Irish Embassy seeks investments opportunities in Kisumu County
The Irish Ambassador to Kenya Dr. Vincent O’Neill today met Kisumu Deputy Governor Dr. Mathew Owili and a host of CEC Members to share on possible areas of investments where they can partner to improve the living standards of Kisumu residents.
One of the major areas identified at the meeting was blue economy an emerging concept which encourages better stewardship of lake resources. Kisumu being a home to the second largest fresh water lake in Africa will benefit immensely with the adoption of the concept.
Other areas not fully exploited include poultry farming, export of agricultural products, milk processing as well as the irrigation sector that if well managed can ensure food security within the County.
Dr. O’Neill in his address to the County leadership mentioned that Kisumu is one of the few counties that they have identified to partner with based on the tangible development projects they have initiated and with an influx of untapped investment opportunities.
The Deputy Governor while making his remarks acknowledged that most investment opportunities available will require the support of development partners.
“Most of these things are not things the government can do alone,we need partners to succeed”. He said adding that the County Government is willing to donate land to development partners who will come on board to take Kisumu to the next level.
The CECs present were Dr. Obiero Ogone (Education), Madam Alice Moraa (Trade), Mr. Richard Ogendo (Planning), Gilchrist Okuom (Agriculture), and Head of Special Delivery Unit Mr. George Omondi.
