The Deputy Governor of Kisumu County, Dr. Mathew Ochieng Owili today, Thursday 7th February , led a high level delegation of officials on a project inspection and appraisal tour of a Ward within Nyakach Sub County.
The tour which began in earnest at Ten O’clock went well into the evening as all the projects, both ongoing and proposed underwent intense scrutiny by the deputy county leader.
Accompanying him was the area MCA, Hon Jonhson Guya who moved with him from site to site explaining in detail the nature and status of all development projects.
The tour culminated into a community hall meeting where the Deputy Governor explained the agenda of the Governor while at the same time thanking the members of the community for voting them into office.
While receiving a memorandum from community leaders, the DG announced that the Governor had directed that all County projects be concluded by the 31st of May this year without fail.
“There will be no open ended contracts! All projects must be concluded within a stipulated time frame and payments done!”
While conveying the governors greetings, the DG encouraged the people to take Public Participation seriously when it comes to development projects telling them that the promulgated constitution gave the people power to identify projects of their choice.
This meeting follows a similar one held at a neighbouring Ward by the same team a few months ago and the county leader repeated his call to the people that they support Raila Odinga and the Building Bridges Initiative telling them that for the first time in the nation’s history, true development was now a reality.
Dr Owili inspected a Kenyatta era Dispensary which his team promised to have upgraded to a sub county status. The Dispensary has a huge catchment area and is currently underperforming.
The issue of youth unemployment reared its head and the Deputy Governor advised the youths to seize training opportunities offered at the county’s cost in local village polytechmics.
Issues delved on in in the meeting include supply of clean water, repair and desiltation of water pans, best practices in agriculture, roads, lighting of markets among others.
Besides the MCA, the DG had with him the Agriculture minister, the Chief of Staff, the CEC health, the sub County admins together with their partners from the wards, the national government team, community leaders among others.
