I last night received yet another Whatsapp from a Somali in Mombasa urging me to take on SC Ahmednasir for his endless bragging about his suits – the latest about USD 12,000 suits in a land of mass poverty.

Let him know that his arrogance of wealth, given to him by His Creator, will incur him the wrath of Allah on Judgement Day and no $12k suits will save him from chastisement.

Nothing pleases Allah more than modesty and humility, but Ahmednasir lives in total denial of these two of the greatest virtues our great Prophet inculcated upon true Muslims.

Let him read Sura Ar-Rahman (The Beneficent) in which this repetitive refrain is put to the believer after Allah recounts His Favours:

Which is it in the Favours of Thy Lord that ye deny ?

Let him tell us which ones he Ahmednasir is denying. He can still save his soul by reverting to humility because the way he is going now is a journey to the doom of his soul.

Let him acquire modesty and humility by reciting dua (supplication) as often as he can:

On Seeing One’s Face In The Looking Glass:

O Allah ! Thou made my physical constitution quite good, make my disposition good too.

O Allah ! Make me small in my eyes, and big in the eyes of the people.

O Lord ! help me in remembering Thee, in expressing gratitude to Thee, and in worshipping Thee in the best of manners.

At The Time Of Donning A New Garment

Praise be to Allah, who clad me with that wherewith I cover my shame and wherewith I adorn myself in my life.

It breaks my heart to tell these to a man like Ahmednasir whose ethnic clan is called Sheikhal (Mashekhe) who historically traversed on foot the length and breadth of Somali-inhabited territories spreading the Word Of Allah through the Holy Quran.

Where did this man take the wrong turning ?

Here are only a few of the many guidance that Islam has provided warning against arrogance.

“And do not turn your cheek [in contempt] toward people and do not walk through the earth exultantly. Indeed, Allah does not like everyone self-deluded and boastful.
And be moderate in your pace and lower your voice; indeed, the most disagreeable of sounds is the voice of donkeys.”
(Quran Surah Luqmaan Ayah 31:18-19)

It was narrated from ‘Abd-AllaahibnMas’ood that the Prophet (SAW) said: “No one who has an atom’s-weight of arrogance in his heart will enter Paradise.” A man said, “O Messenger of Allah, what if a man likes his clothes and his shoes to look good?” He said, “Allah is Beautiful and loves beauty. Arrogance means rejecting the truth and looking down on people.”
(Muslim, 91)

It was narrated from ‘AmribnShu’ayb via his father and grandfather that the Prophet (SAW) said: “On the Day of Resurrection, the arrogant will be gathered like ants in the form of men. Humiliation will overwhelm them from all sides. They will be driven to a prison in Hell called Bawlas, with the hottest fire rising over them, and they will be given to drink of the juice of the inhabitants of Hell, which is teenat al-khabaal.”
(Narrated by al-Tirmidhi, 2492; classed as hasan by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Tirmidhi, 2025)

The Prophet (SAW) said,
“Once a man was walking along in a new set of clothes, with a swagger to his step, pleased with himself, Allah caused the earth to swallow him and he will keep sinking until the Last Day.”

The Prophet (SAW) said,
“Tyrants and the arrogant will be raised on the last Day as grain strewn under feet that the people will walk upon.”
(At-Tirmidhi, Ahmad)

HarithaibnWahb reported: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Shall I not tell you about the companions of Paradise? They are every humble person considered weak, but if they gave an oath by Allah it would be fulfilled. Shall I not tell you about the companions of Hellfire? They are every cruel, haughty, and arrogant person.”
(Bukhari, Muslim)
