Raila Odinga to officially open Busia Sugar Factor Constructed by the County Government
Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga will open the Busia Sugar Factory at Busibwabo in Matayos Sub County on November 26, 2018. Plans to have the company operationalized had been completed; a move that will create jobs and other opportunities to local residents.
Farmers will get money from the sale of their cane, companies dealing in fuel will get market for their products while county residents will also benefit from economies of scale.
Raila confirmed his attendance in a letter signed by his chief of Staff Andrew Mondoh on October 23, 2018 addressed to me.
The letter read in part: I wish to inform you that Hon. Raila Odinga, EGH has accepted an invitation by Hon. Florence Mutua and Mr. Ali Taib to officially open the Busia Sugar Factory for milling on 26 November, 2018 at Busibwabo at 10am.
Legal battles have seen the factory remain closed for over five years. The Governor and other leaders made frantic efforts to have the matter end and which has now come to pass.
The factory which will crash over 3500 metric tons of cane per day will employ about 3386 people, 86 of whom will be permanent.
