Spain have sacked manager Julen Lopetegui with just one day to go till the start of the World Cup after the Spaniard had “secret agreements” with Real Madrid to be their new manager without informing the Spanish FA
Spanish FA president and former Hamilton Academical defender Luis Rubiales said in a statement “We have to decided to fire the national coach.
“What we have achieved in getting here is due in great part to him, and we must thank him and wish him luck. The Spanish national team is the team of all the Spaniards.
“We only found out just five minutes before that he was leaving for Madrid.
Rubiales said he had been obliged to sack Julen Lopetegui, although he wished him the best of luck. “Some decisions have to be taken. I don’t feel betrayed. While he was working with the Spanish national side his work was impeccable. Another thing is what he’s done without the RFEF (the Spanish FA) knowing, while he was working for the RFEF. The way you do things is important. We’ll change things as little as possible and as soon as we have something to say, we’ll do so”
